Seasons Greetings: Welcome to our Festive Newsletter

Welcome to our Winter Newsletter and the last edition of 2023.

This year has flown by and it has been another interesting year. We were delighted to welcome back some familiar faces to the gallery for the first time since the Covid pandemic and we were lucky enough to make some great new customers.

As well as the welcome return of a number of Fine Art and Antique Fairs in the capital, London also hosted two brilliant exhibitions. “Japan: Courts and Culture” as part of the Royal Collection at Buckingham Palace displayed a wonderful selection of Japanese works of art from the Edo, Meiji and Taisho Periods. “Japan. From Myths to Manga” at the Young V&A in East London runs until September 2024 and is a really interesting exhibition aimed at introducing children to the wonders of Japanese culture and mythology and the impact it has had on the rest of the world. You can read more about it by clicking here.

In 2023 we said goodbye to some fascinating works of art, happy in the knowledge that they were all going to great new homes in the UK, across Europe, the Middle East, North America and the Far-East.

Once again, we have also helped raise thousands of pounds for the Red Cross through our “What we value” appraisal service. The Red Cross, as part of the Disasters Emergency Committee are carrying out vital, life-saving work in Ukraine and we are humbled to be able to support such a worthy cause at such a difficult time. You can read more about this by clicking here.

In this Newsletter we shine the light on a fascinating pair of Silver and Multi-metal vases that contain multiple artist signatures and are brimming with symbolism. We also introduce the legendary Daruma, one of the most popular and frequently depicted characters in Japanese legend.

We look back at some of the wonderful works of art that have flown the nest over the last 12 months as well as taking a look at some of the latest addition to our Online Gallery.

We hope you enjoy the read and as we look forward to 2024 (The Year of the Dragon no less), we would like to take this opportunity to wish Health, Happiness, Peace and Prosperity to all our friends, customers, partners and our ever-growing community of Instagram followers.

Introducing the legendary Daruma

Last week, inspired by new addition to our collection of Japanese Meiji-era metalwork, we penned a new blog about the legendary Daruma. One of the most popular characters in Japanese legend. Click here or or in the image below for a closer look.

Open for Business

As much as we are very proud of ever-growing online presence, we know that there is nothing quite like visiting a gallery in person. A photograph or a video can never truly replace the experience of seeing an object in the flesh, handling it or enjoying the feeling of being surrounded by precious antiques and fine art. Click here or on the below image to arrange an appointment. (We can also arrange virtual appointments for those who are unable to visit us in person.)

We will be at the gallery between Christmas and New Year but only by Appointment. As always, we endeavour to respond to online enquiries on the same day.
