From our collection of late 19th Century fine Japanese metalware, this attractive pair of Bronze bottle vases with slender necks and inlaid multi-patinated decoration.
The vase depicting different coloured Koi Carp swimming in shallow water and breaking the surface causing an elegant ripple effect. The artist used Bronze, Gold and Shakudo to achieve the subtle different colouring of the fish.
The vases with stylised Baku handles and attractive flush-inlaid multi-metal decoration.

Due to them being the only fish to conquer the waterfalls of the yellow river carp represent courage and strength in Japanese culture, the gift of a Koi carp is believed to grant the receiver great strength.
