Red Hare (Chi Tu)
Red Hare was a legendary horse most famously owned by the Han Dynasty warlord Lu Bu, it was capable of extraordinary feats, travelling over 1000 miles a day and crossing rivers and mountains as though it were flat ground. It was said to be around three meters tall and of an ashen red colour. After the death of Lu Bu at the battle of Xiapi Red Hare eventually came into the possession of Guan Yu, they had a connection like no other and when Guan Yu died Red Hare starved itself for days until it’s death.
Lu Bu
Lu Bu was a legendary Chinese warlord who lived during the Han Dynasty (189-220AD), he was a real person and events of his life are dramatised in ‘The Romance of the three Kingdoms’ a 14th century historical novel. He is noted for being a temperamental and erratic but phenomenal warrior.
Crackle glaze
Crackle glaze is a deliberate decorative effect caused by rapid cooling of a fired piece combined with a low silica glaze. It has a long history in Korean and Chinese pottery, pieces from the Chinese Song (960-1279) and Yaun (1271-1368) Dynasties are particularly sort after and notable for their use of crackle.
