A large, (60cm in height) jar and cover dating from 18th Century China. Over-painted with vibrant blues, yellows, greens, reds and Gold.
Lower panel decoration includes depictions of rabbits, bats, birds, lions and other animals whilst the main panels show floral scenes.

Rabbit (China)
In China the rabbit is known to be the luckiest of the twelve animals of the zodiac it symbolises beauty, mercy and elegance.
Bat (China)
In Chinese art bats symbolise health, long life, prosperity, virtue and tranquil death. Five stylised red bats are often shown together to represent these five virtues.
Lion (China)
In China lions represent power and wisdom, lion dances are performed at festivals and new years they bring good fortune and chase away bad spirits.
Clobbered
The term “clobbered” or “clobber ware” refers to Chinese export porcelain that has had its original blue and white under glaze added to at a later date usually with coloured enamel decoration. The practice originated in Holland and spread through Europe. It was often used to enhance Chinese ceramics to make them appeal to European tastes it could also be used to disguise damage or repairs.
