Simply put, POA stands for “Price on Application”.
With some of our pieces, we prefer not to openly publish our asking price. We absolutely welcome visitors to the website to contact us to enquire about the cost of such pieces.

From our collection of Japanese metalwork from the late 19th Century, this exceptional and very large (matched) pair of Bronze figures from the celebrated Miyao Company of Yokohama.
The two imposing figures (each standing at 72cm in height including their original stands) hold aloft twin Bronze Koro topped with prancing Lion Dogs. One mounted to the lid of each. The Lion Dogs (Komainu) playfully mirroring their handstands.
Each of the figures stand strong against the wind that blows their robes dramatically. The mirrored figures each holding an elaborate Ruyi Sceptre in their hands and with a Sword at their waists. Their robes are decorated with Mon (emblems) that represent the Imperial house-hold. Phoenix to symbolise the Empress and Dragons for the Emperor.
They are mounted on the classic gilt wood Miyao Bases with gold lacquer decoration of stylised floral motifs and Phoenix birds.

Miyao Eisuke
Possibly one of the best known and widely celebrated metalwork manufacturers of the Meiji period, the Miyao company was first based in Yokohama before moving to Tokyo in 1890.
They exhibited at many of the Great Expositions to great critical acclaim and won many prizes for their impressive works, they are best known for their metal ware but they also manufactured Shibayama style works and ivory figures.
