An 18th Century Chinese tureen and cover. Originally blue and white and later over painted in Europe.
The cover with a nib in the shape of a Persimmon bulb and the tureen with handles in the form of Hares.
The original painting was blue and white with oranges, golds, greens and turquoise added.

Clobbered
The term “clobbered” or “clobber ware” refers to Chinese export porcelain that has had its original blue and white under glaze added to at a later date usually with coloured enamel decoration. The practice originated in Holland and spread through Europe. It was often used to enhance Chinese ceramics to make them appeal to European tastes it could also be used to disguise damage or repairs.
