Simply put, POA stands for “Price on Application”.
With some of our pieces, we prefer not to openly publish our asking price. We absolutely welcome visitors to the website to contact us to enquire about the cost of such pieces.
We just prefer to have a conversation to allow us to explain the pricing as well as to talk in more detail about the piece in question.
It doesn’t necessarily mean that it is a super expensive piece but it may just be that there is something unique or special that we would like to be able to tell you about in more detail.

A pair of Japanese Meiji period (1869-1912) bronze vases with multimetal decoration of roses and poppies, surrounded by butterfly. Gold, silver, copper, shakudo and shibuichi are masterfully used to depict the colours of the flowers and leaves.

Roses are globally recognized to represent love and devotion.
Poppy
Poppies tend to symbolize a fun approach to life, and of course they have connections to opium, while opium was popular all over the world during the Meiji period Japan banned it’s use.
Butterfly
The butterfly is a common symbol in Japanese art, it represents good luck, good health and prosperity.
Shakudo is an alloy of gold and copper which can be treated to develop a black patina.
Shibuichi is an alloy of silver and copper which can be treated to develop a grey patina.
