An attractive pair of matched 19th Century Chinese jars and covers. Both with famille verte decoration on a black ground.
The main panel on each vase depicting a carp breaking the surface of some turbulent water to reach some the low hanging branches of a nearby tree. On the reverse a flamboyant song bird sits in the boughs of a tree as butterflies fly over head.
The black ground with white prunus decoration. There are some subtle differences in the decoration and borders of each jar and cover.
