It doesn’t necessarily mean that it is a super expensive piece but it may just be that there is something unique or special that we would like to be able to tell you about in more detail.

From our collection of antique Japanese metalwork, this Meiji-era (1868-1912) vase with Takazogan (high-relief) onlaid and inlaid decoration depicting a Sparrow standing on the leaves of a flowering Iris. One Silver-patinated flower is in full bloom and another, just below is beginning to open. A stream runs at the base of the plant.
The Silver of the flowers and the bird pleasantly contrast with the green-brown patina on the leaves of the Iris and the rich dark brown of the main body of the vase.
The hexagonal-form bottle neck leads to a pear-shaped baluster body and the foot of the vase is round.
Unsigned and offered in good condition as shown in the photographs. Please feel free to contact us for additional information, images or to arrange a viewing.

Iris
In Japan the Iris (Ayme) represents courage and good news. A symbol of the Samurai, its sword-shaped leaves symbolise a warrior’s spirit, making it a popular gift for individuals facing challenges or starting new ventures.
