From our collection of Japanese ceramics of the Meiji-era (1868-1912) this finely painted Satsuma plate with decoration of a Daimyo procession. The decoration in minute detail, the men are dressed in their finery and as they exit the Shrine, they are greeted by four Priests dressed in white.

The Toshogu shrine in the town of Nikko is the final resting place of the Shogunate Tokogawa Leyasu, he founded a dynasty that ruled for over 250 years that ended in 1861.
