£POA - What does POA mean?
Product Code: KPME90
Simply put, POA stands for “Price on Application”.
With some of our pieces, we prefer not to openly publish our asking price. We absolutely welcome visitors to the website to contact us to enquire about the cost of such pieces.
We just prefer to have a conversation to allow us to explain the pricing as well as to talk in more detail about the piece in question.
It doesn’t necessarily mean that it is a super expensive piece but it may just be that there is something unique or special that we would like to be able to tell you about in more detail.

Fording the Uji River
The Fording of the Uji River was a famous event in the wars of the Taira and Minamoto families (1180-85). Which took place during the Kamahura period (1185-1333). The two warriors and rivals Kajiwara Kagetoki and Sasaki Takatsuna raced to be the first to cross the Uji river and face the enemy forces of the Taira. Takatsuna won the race, and it has been a story retold and depicted in art many times since then.
Kajiwara Kagetoki
Kajiwara Kagetoki originally fought on the side of the Taira family, but when he rescued Minamoto Yoritomo (who would later become the Shogun) he became a trusted vassal. He fought alongside Yoritomo’s brother Yoshitsune in the battle which destroyed the Taira but later turned against him.
Sasaki Takatsuna
Sasaki Takatsuna was a distant relation of the Minamoto family. He fought alongside Yoritomo many times, notably the Battle of Dannoura in 1185, in which the Taira family were all killed or committed suicide, and Yoritomo was declaired Shogun. Takatsuna is most widely known for winning the race at the Uji river.
