This attractive pair of turquoise Qilin (Kirin in Japan) stand at 41cms in height and are very attractive. Dating from the late 19th Century, they are in good condition apart from some minor chips, (to be expected considering their age.)
Qilin are mythical Chinese creatures said to be bring good luck. Don’t hesitate to contact us for more information, photographs or to arrange an appointment to view. (Virtual or in person.)
Kirin (Qilin Chinese)
The Kirin is a familiar creature in East Asian mythology, it’s sometimes known as the Asian Unicorn, and is often depicted with a single horn on it’s had, other distinguishing features are cloven hooves and scales. The Japanese Kirin often resembles a deer while the Chinese version is more dragon like. The Kirin is a peaceful creature, so peaceful that in Buddhist stories, that it will not tread upon the grass for fear of harming it, instead it walks upon water or clouds. It is said the that Kirin only appears in kingdoms ruled by a wise and benevolent leader.
